Almost half (43 percent) of all motorcyclist fatalities in 1995 resulted from crashes in seven states: California (260), Florida (181), Texas (128), Ohio (108), Illinois (101), New York (92), and Pennsylvania (84).
In 1996, 25 states and the District of Columbia had helmet use laws that covered all motorcycle riders. Twenty-two states had use laws covering certain ages and three states had no helmet use laws.
